Benjamin Davis (1869–1946)
(Scottish‑Irish‑British Landscape Painter)
Benjamin Davis was born in 1869 and became a dedicated landscape painter who worked in oil and watercolor, portraying a variety of subjects from coastal scenes and rural Scottish vistas to interiors and narrative subjects inspired by local culture and literature. Though he described himself primarily as a landscape artist, his body of work demonstrates a broader range that includes cottage interiors, boats and beach scenes.
Following his 1890 marriage in Dublin, Davis lived in Cork, Ireland, where he likely attended the local art school part‑time and began developing his artistic practice. By 1900 he had moved with his family to Liverpool, England, exhibiting work and refining his style through the first two decades of the 20th century. In about 1909 he relocated to Glasgow, Scotland, where he established a studio at his home and continued painting until his death in 1946.
