“The only thing I ever wanted to be was an artist. I am extremely fortunate to be doing what I love.” – Ann DerGara
Ann DerGara was a fiercely passionate and versatile artist whose career spanned painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Born in Greenville, South Carolina to Norwegian-German parents who nurtured her early creativity, DerGara sold her first painting before beginning her formal training at Georgia State University. In 1978, a printmaking course at the Atlanta College of Art introduced her to Dick Williams and the pioneering Odyssey Studio launching a lifelong exploration of etching, collagraph, serigraph, and monoprinting.
Critics and collectors alike have praised DerGara's assured style, noting her rare blend of technical mastery and imaginative freedom. Her work, often radiant with color and optimism, embodies a clear intention: to celebrate what is positive and beautiful in the world.
Ann DerGara’s legacy lives on in her joyful, expressive works and the lasting impact she made on contemporary American art.
