James McDougal Hart (American, 1828-1901)
Landscape painter, born in Kilmarnock, Scotland, May 10, 1828. Brother to William Howard Hart. He was brought to America in 1831 and apprenticed to a coach painter. In 1851 he went to Dusseldorf, Germany, for a year’s study and returning home settled in New York City. Elected Associate of National Academy in 1857 and National Academy in 1859. Represented at Corcoran Art Gallery, Washington, DC, by The Drove at the Ford. He died October 24, 1901 in Brooklyn, NY.
