Bruce Petrie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1954.  He is a practicing lawyer in Cincinnati who began creating art as a hobby.  He first dabbled in free lance illustrations and editorial cartooning, then turned to oil painting.  He studied with painter Thomas Buechner, in Corning, New York.   Bruce became interested in plein aire painting, and traveled throughout the United States, France, and Italy to paint outdoor landscapes directly from nature.   He also studied the art history of landscape painting and the common threads running from early Chinese landscape painting to the present.
