Leon Richet (1847-1907) was born in Solesmes, France, he was a pupil of Diaz de La Pena, Lebfevre and Boulanger. From 1869 he exhibited in the Salon, receiving awards in 1885, 1888 and 1901. Leon Richet is numbered among the landscape painters inspired by the masters of the Barbizon School and holds a respected place among them. His works are in the museums of Leeds, Montreal, Nice and Reims.
His compositions are often airy and open, unlike the sometimes enclosed and dusky views of nature of some of his mentors and counterparts, such as Diaz and Corot. Richet was a very prolific artist and his works appear in many collections including The Hermitage, St. Petersburg; Le Musée d'Art Moderne, Nice; Leeds Museum; Montreal Museum; and Musée de Reims.
