Philippe Noyer (1917-1985)
Paris & London
Modern painter celebrated for his portraits, dreamlike figures, and Art Deco-inspired compositions. Noyer combined classical techniques with a uniquely illustrative style, capturing intellectual, literary, and fantastical subjects. He gained international recognition through Paris and London high society, painting celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor, Jean Wallace, and Dinah Shore.
Noyer studied at the École des Roches, École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, and the Paul Colin School of Art in Paris. His career was promoted by art dealer Emmanuel David and supported by American collector Robert Goldstein, bringing his work to prominence in the United States. Later, Noyer focused on stylized, elegant figures, often women with foliage or animals, producing over 2,000 oils and watercolors. His work continues to be collected worldwide and exhibited in major galleries and private collections.
