Samuel A. Moss (1873–1960)

Samuel A. Moss was a longtime resident of New Rochelle, New York, where he lived for more than forty years and became known for his charming village landscapes and seascapes.

He studied under renowned American Impressionist Frank Vincent DuMond at the Art Students League of New York and earned scholarships to the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where he studied under L. H. Meakin and Frank Duveneck.

In addition to his work as a fine artist, Moss enjoyed a distinguished career in commercial art, serving as Art Director for several prominent New York advertising agencies, including Campbell, Moss & Johnson and Lord & Thomas. He was also associated with 20th Century Fox for a number of years.

An active member of the New York art community, Moss frequently exhibited at the New Rochelle Women's Club, taught oil painting classes from his home, and was a member of the New Rochelle Art Association, the Hudson Valley Art Association, the Art Directors Club, and the Advertising Club of New York City.
