John Charles Arter
(American, 1860-1923)
John Charles Arter was born in Hanoverton, Ohio in 1860. He studied in Cincinnati and Paris at the Académie Julian as well as in Venice, London, and New York. He is known to have painted many famous portraits including Pope Pius X. He died in Alliance, Ohio in 1923.
