Dixie Selden was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1868.  Most of her career took place in Cincinnati, where she was a highly regarded member of the art community.  She spent her childhood and later years in Covington, Kentucky.  Selden painted along the New England coast during summers and traveled frequently, usually with fellow painter Emma Mendenhall, recording scenes of Mexico, Normandy, Brittany, Spain, and Italy.
