Charles Appel (American, 1857-1928) was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1857.  Most of his life was spent in East Orange, New Jersey where he was active in New York art circles and was elected a member of the Salmagundi Club in 1906.  He was well known for his paintings of landscapes, marine life, and genre portraiture.  He died in 1928.
